Introduction
-
The platform's personalized styling preferences are tailored to each individual's needs, allowing them to use their existing items and accessories.
-
Users receive outfit arrangements for their daily needs, business trips, and special occasions, enabling them to control their outfit options.
-
Stylish not only helps users eliminate over-shopping and find a sense of fashion but also boosts users' self-esteem and helps them look their best for important events.
-
Additionally, Stylish is designed to address environmental concerns by reducing energy consumption, pollution, and the negative impact of manufacturing and transportation of goods on ecosystems, wildlife, and human health.
In this case study, my primary focus lies in
1. Enhancing User Style and Confidence: You aim to help users improve their style and boost their confidence by providing personalized outfit recommendations tailored to their preferences and needs.
2. Environmental Impact: Additionally, you're focused on addressing environmental concerns related to over-shopping by encouraging users to make better use of their existing wardrobe items, thus reducing waste and minimizing the environmental footprint associated with excessive consumption.

User Interviews
Competitive Analysis
I researched the top three competitors in the marketplace which helped me identify the strengths of the competitors, address their weaknesses, seize opportunities, and navigate potential threats, ultimately increasing the chances of success in the market.

User Interviews
In order to better empathize with users, I conducted user interviews to learn their perspective and get a better understanding of their motivations, frustrations and pain points around learning a new skill.
Method
-
Created an interview discussion guide based on open-ended questions to allow participants to share their experiences.
-
Conducted and recorded interviews for 5 participants
-
Organized notes to generate an actionable interview debrief.
Participants

-
Age: 23-55

Interview Analysis
Interview Analysis:
-
Conducted 9 interview sessions with users for initial user interviews.
-
During my user interviews, I gained a deep understanding of users' pain points.
-
Users expressed interest in an AI assistant and its usefulness, especially for those with low self-esteem and no fashion sense.
-
Additionally, users highlighted their desire to avoid excessive shopping due to its environmental impact.
-
Users expressed a strong desire for a platform that not only assists in arranging chic looks but also helps better impact the environment.
2.
Define
Problem Statement: The project aims to address the challenge of users struggling with outfit selection and the environmental impact of excessive shopping. Users expressed difficulties in curating stylish looks, particularly those with low self-esteem or lacking fashion sense. Additionally, there is a growing concern among users about the environmental consequences of over-shopping.
User Needs: Through user interviews, it was identified that users desire an AI-powered platform to assist them in creating chic outfits while also supporting environmental sustainability. They seek a solution that not only enhances their fashion choices but also aligns with their values of reducing environmental impact.
Scope and Objectives: The scope of the project encompasses the development of a mobile app that provides personalized styling recommendations using existing items, thereby reducing the need for excessive shopping. The primary objective is to create an intuitive platform that enhances users' fashion experiences while promoting sustainable consumption habits.
Success Criteria: The success of the project will be measured based on user satisfaction with the styling recommendations, the efficiency of the AI assistant in curating outfits, and the extent to which the platform encourages environmentally conscious shopping behaviors.
Constraints and Assumptions: Constraints include time limitations of the project duration and potential technical challenges in implementing AI algorithms. Assumptions include user willingness to adopt AI-driven solutions and the effectiveness of the platform in reducing over-shopping behavior.
Affinity Mapping

User Personas
-
Creating User Personas from Affinity Mapping and Interviews:
-
Utilizing insights from affinity mapping and user interviews, I developed two user personas that captured the key qualities observed among the nine participants.
-
This approach ensured that my design decisions were firmly rooted in real user needs, goals, and expectations.
-
-
Immersing in User Stories and Experiences:
-
Through extensive user interviews and research, I immersed myself in the stories and experiences of individuals navigating similar apps.
-
By empathizing with user experiences, I identified commonalities, pain points, and aspirations that formed the foundation for our user personas.
-
-
Distilling User Insights:
-
I analyzed the data and user interviews to distill meaningful insights, uncovering recurring patterns and motivations.
-
These insights provided valuable clues about user behaviors, preferences, and goals, enabling me to craft personas that accurately represented the diversity and needs of our target audience.
-
-
Bringing Personas to Life:
-
Through an empathetic exploration and synthesis of user insights, I brought the personas to life.
-
These personas serve as guiding tools throughout the design process, ensuring that our solutions resonate with the needs and aspirations of our users.
-
By following this process of empathetic exploration, distilling user insights, and crafting user personas, I have equipped myself with valuable tools to inform and guide my design process effectively.

User and Task Flows
To facilitate users in accomplishing their goals, I identified three crucial tasks and devised task flows delineating the essential steps for completing these actions. These tasks were selected based on their significance in enabling users to achieve their objectives. By gaining a deeper understanding of the user, I developed user flows, emphasizing the importance of each task and pinpointing decision points that would effectively address user needs.

Design Focus:
The user wants to look good but doesn't have the time to arrange the outfit.
User wants to use an App that will customize the outfit according to the user's lifestyle, age and other needs. The user wants to look and feel good without having to buy more.
Project Goals:
I want to know how I can design a product that will support sustainability and environment.
Help user with visual appearance. Elevate the user self-esteem.
4.
Design
Low-Fi Sketches
I began by building low-fidelity sketches. This allows me to get a visual idea of my design and make iterations easily and ensure that the final screen designs are intuitive and meets the project goals.

Mid- Fi Sketches
Conducting a MID/LOW- Fi usability testing.

Things to work on:
-
Match up the photo image to the rest of the page size.
-
Left align the input text.
-
Font. User made a comment of one type of typefaces would be preferable.
-
User would like to see Profile card as a rectangular shape instead of dialog.
-
Change Icons to text in page no.2, Task flow.
Overall experience and App functionality
-
Conducting MID-FI usability interviews I found out that a lot of users love the idea of a Virtual styling assistant.
-
Overall, users loved the color palette used in the app.
-
Logo got great feedback from all participants.
-
User loved the site mascot (AI).
-
All three task flows were easy to navigate through for the user.

High Fidelity Usability Testing
To test the product and ensure that tasks designed for the user can be completed successfully as planned, and to gather user feedback for further iteration, I conducted unmoderated and moderated usability tests via Google Meet and Maze among 10 participants.

Overall App Appearance
- "The app has a stylish and modern design that is very appealing."
- "I love the overall look and feel; it's visually pleasing and easy to navigate."
Key Takeaways
The experience I gained from this UX case study have reinforced the importance of user-centric design.
With given time frame for this project my design process was effective. I had to prioritize the features that were most important for users to achieve their goals.
This experience taught me to design iteratively and seek feedback throughout the design process.
